How To Eat Like A Viking at Vikings

The Vikings are known to be the Norse seafarers hailed from their lands in Scandinavia. These are the countries in the northern European region, such as Norway, Sweden and Denmark, and often includes Iceland and Finland. Various literature, when compiled together, suggest that the Vikings have a very diverse cuisine, with lots of food and ingredients. They eat fish, seafood, meat, vegetables, cereals, milk products, fruits, and sweet, to name a few. In fact, the English often describe the Vikings as gluttonous. When they eat, they definitely eat in abundance.

Looking for a feast? Eat like a Viking here.

If you ask me, I imagine a Viking eating a feast and does not scrimp on food. Thus, it is just apt that when you like to enjoy a banquet at a reasonable price, Vikings Luxury Buffet is the place to go. So, how do you make the most of your visit and what are the great ways to eat like a Viking?

1.) Survey the area

They say there is an art and science when it comes to enjoying a buffet meal. I used to be Asst. Vice President of a major hotel and had the privilege to avail of the free buffet in the hotel’s restaurant. I would normally sit in a corner and watch diners how they would make the most of the buffet offerings. There were those who would spend a few minutes just scouring the area, looking at the various displays in every food station. If you are out to go to war against food, take to heart Sun Tzu’s Art of War and see which ones you have to attack first. But seriousness aside, just enjoy the view of all the food as you check on what is being offered.

There are plenty of food choices when you are in Vikings.

2.) Sample all stations

You can devote all your time and effort on a station you love to most, but don’t miss the opportunity to try the rest. If you are a first-timer in Vikings SM City Bacolod, here are some of the stations that you can enjoy: Japanese, Chinese, Shabu-Shabu, Filipino, Malatang, Mexican corner, Korean, Grill, Italian kitchen, Carving, Appetizer, Salad, Bread, Drinks, and Desserts.

3.) Take small portions

In order for you to indulge in a variety of food, just take small portions of almost everything. While in a regular restaurant you get to have full servings of one or two dishes, the benefit of a buffet is you get the freedom to have all the assortment of food being displayed. And though in the real sense of the word, a Viking would eat in large quantities, our Filipino physiology may not be wired for such, so compensate on variety so you get to eat more than the usual. So, take advantage of this privilege and be a real Viking when it comes to having a diverse cuisine. It’s just strategy, baby.

Vikings
Have small portions but in variety.

4.) Get food one plate at a time

You’ll never run out of food so don’t take everything and put them on your table to turn cold. Just fill a plate and eat it. When you’re done, take another plate and get what you like. Treat it as exercise and burn a few of the food you have already consumed but the wisdom really behind this is that if you just leave food at the station and return for your share, food may still be warm.

Vikings
Just get a plateful of food, consume them, and return later for the rest.

5.) Give it a break

Whenever you have finished a plate, take a short breather to prepare yourself for your next serving. A brief break from all those food consumption will leave you time for another plate.

6.) Dine in good company

It is more appetizing to eat in the company of family of friends. You enjoy mealtime more compared to dining all by yourself. It makes eating a bonding moment and a more enjoyable experience.

Enjoy good company.

7.) Take advantage of promos

Vikings always run special promos for different occasions. Take for instance this coming season when many students graduate from their class. The class of 2016 (Graduates of Kindergarten, Elementary, High School, and College: Bachelor, Master or Doctor’s Degree) can enjoy a free buffet in Vikings SM City Bacolod from March 15, 2016 to May 31, 2016 as long as they bring a proof that they graduated this year: diploma, graduation photo, or graduation program with the graduate’s name/ceremony invitation (all supported by school ID); and along with three paying guests as companions.

Vikings has even added a Graduation Special Menu with 12 new dishes in its buffet offerings for this special promo period.

  1. Nowadays, I can only look at the photos. There was a time I ate like a pig and Vikings is definitely a good choice. However, at my age, I have to be very choosy and eat moderately.

  2. Super cool post and place! As a descendant of Vikings though, I can say that this isn’t quite how vikings ate. I like the idea though. It surely looks gorgeous

  3. I plan to try this at a Vikings branch near our place during my birthday month this year. 🙂

  4. We didn’t eat dinner last night after our bout with the new menu at Vikings! haha So yummy!

  5. Great place to pig out! I love the truffle mashed potato at Vikings MOA! You can eat just that and you’ll feel like you’re getting your money’s worth!

  6. #3 is my number rule when eating in a buffet: always eat in small portion. This is the only way I get to sample at least almost everything. Almost, because I really couldn’t eat them all, especially at Vikings because they have too many food selection.

  7. Food looks so so appetizing. On general days I’m not a big eater, but when I go out or in feasts I am gluttonous… I eat indeed like a viking…

  10. Our family has a small appetite so we are not really buffet fans. However, when I did get an opportunity to eat at a Vikings, sadly I did not really like the selection very much.

  11. Its funny to read about how Scandinavian people eat when I live in Stockholm. The article is pretty right, besides that one of the most important things they eat (with breakfast, lunch and dinner) is knäckebröd of course!

  12. Wow Bacolod is really growing already now, there is even vikings there

  13. I am not much into buffet meals but I like the food options at Vikings. They have all the meals, cuisines, desserts and drinks to choose from.

  15. Prerna Sinha

hmm…the food and specially the desserts are looking so yumm!

  16. I’ve been to Vikings so many times, often on birthdays and when balikbayans come around. I’ve mastered the art of not eating rice and munching on bread! They take too much space! I need space for Japanese food and for the beef in the roasting section, which is ultimately what I came for anyway. 😀

  17. Now that is a restaurant! Lots of great items to choose from. I don’t think anyone will go hungry at Vikings.

  18. I do agree with your tips, usually I take a little by little. This will control the amount food intake.

  19. I heard a lot of good things about Vikings buffet. Just today a friend told me we should try the Vikings branch in MOA. Your post is so timely. Will definitely visit there the soonest.
