Bike2Globe: Cycle Your Way to Sustainable Environment

With the alarming effects of climate change and pollution on our ecosystem, it is but apt that we practice activities that can reduce carbon footprint, especially with the way we travel. If we can find an option that is more beneficial or that can lessen the ill-effects to our environment, it is about time that we consider them seriously. One example is Globe Telecoms encouragement of its employees to us the bicycle as an alternative mode of transportation. It is the company’s commitment towards sustainable environment that they came up with Bike2Globe.

Bike2Globe is a program that aims to heighten people’s awareness on the beneficial effects of biking to the environment. Cycling makes a better option as compared to riding cars or jeepneys since the former only takes fewer natural resources to build it and does not produce air and noise pollution.

This program is in support to the UN Sustainable Development Goal 13 on Climate Change and in making cities resilient, safe, inclusive, and sustainable by providing access to affordable, healthy and environment-friendly transport.

At the launch event, the National Bike Organization handled a forum among Globe employees regarding bike and road safety. Similarly, Globe held a motorcade around various stations within the Bonifacio Global City where its headquarters is located. Bicycle merchandise, Project1Phone eWaste bin and survival kit products were on display in various booths at the event venue.

For those who do not own a bike, Globe provides a number of e-bikes for its employees to use when they need to do work-related errands within the area. These e-bikes are equipped with a pedal power and electric motor that can be manually used in case the battery runs out. Similar to regular bicycles, the e-bike is a reliable and a affordable option of transportation which does not emit harmful elements to the environment.
