First-time in Balokon Spring Resort

By Claire Algarme | April 16, 2016 | Category Asia, Philippines, Visayas

Balokon Spring Resort

The day trip to Salvador Benedicto was really refreshing. Being in the uplands, it was a change of scenery and a cooler weather. But the highlight of our trip was the few hours we spent relaxing at Balokon Spring Resort.

Coming from Bacolod, if you see the Malatan-og Falls view deck, it’s a few turns along the zig zag highway and you will find the resort after a bridge.

The entrance to Balokon Spring Resort.

We went there without any prior reservation. There is a parking area once you enter the property and the reception booth is right ahead. Rates are posted at the wall. Entrance fee is P30 (app. USD 0.65) each for adults and children, with free use of the pools. Rooms and cottages range from P500 to P800 a day or overnight (that’s app. USD 11 to 17.40), which can accommodate to probably about five to seven people.

From the parking area, the reception area is the one at the right side.

A small store could be found after the reception desk. There were tents and cottages at the left side, one of which has a videoke machine for those who want to sing their heart out. Rates for the tents are from P300 to P700 (app. USD 6.50 to 15.20) while outdoor tables were at P300 each.

We got a Helera at P800 and a lady ushered us to show their amenities. There was a large pool, which water coming in from a small stream that was flowing downhill. We took a few flights to an upper portion where a shower room can be found on one side, rows of room at the opposite area, and a kiddie pool in the middle. At the upper portions were huts and other cottages.

Our unit has a porch with tables and chairs where renting guests can have their meals or picnic. The room has a comfortable bed, mirror and dresser, and a private bath and toilet. At the side of the Helera units, we could see the spring water coming from the mountains that flows towards the pool below.

The water in the pool is just so cold. Even when the sun was up, the water coming from the spring was chilling. It was refreshing, yet, at the same time, the body seems a little bit shocked by the change in temperature. But over time, it gets used to it. The large pool has uneven flooring though, so better watch out where you stand.

It was just lovely floating there in the pool, surrounded by lush hills with pine trees, wild ferns, and other greens covering the earth. I basked at the moment and enjoyed the sun, the spring water, and the mountains.

It’s a nice getaway from the hustle and the bustle of the city. The rates are pretty affordable too, especially since the cottages are huge! I wouldn’t mind spending a night here!

Another spring resort to visit. Maybe we’ll have one of our team buildings here next time.

Trips to resorts are always one of the best ways to beat the summer heat. And with rates as attractive as Balokon’s, I won’t be surprised that it’s a big hit.

I’ve never headed of this place before. I’m not really a fan of hot springs in a man made pool but I can definitely see why it’s a nice alternative for a chlorinated swimming pool! It seems to be the trend in many places, even Vietnam, and well, I’d have to agree that it is indeed relaxing!

Your description of the very cold spring water is already very refreshing to read. I wish we could go there this very hot summer. What is a “Dakubo”? Is it a daku (big) kubo? 🙂

It looks very simple, but homey. Considering the price, the place doesn’t look that bad.
