Looking back at my incredible trip to Singapore, it was an absolute feast for the senses. Truly, this bustling city-state surely knows how to tantalize taste buds. In fact, Singapore has a flavorful blend, from vibrant street markets to Michelin-starred hawker stalls.
With that, let’s take on a culinary journey through some of my favorite Singapore food spots that you cannot miss. So, fasten your seatbelts, and let’s dig in!
Hawker Chan: A Michelin-star stall in Singapore
78 Smith Street, Singapore 058972; https://www.liaofanhawkerchan.com/
The iconic Hawker Chan started as a humble stall but soared to fame with a Michelin star. What’s their claim to fame? The legendary Soy Sauce Chicken Rice! In particular, it’s tender chicken in a soy glaze served with fragrant rice is a match made in heaven.
Also, another must-try is the succulent char siew (barbecue pork). With affordable prices and delectable flavors, it’s no wonder Hawker Chan captivates locals and tourists alike.
Seizing the opportunity, we indulged in a delightful lunch at Hawker Chan’s Chinatown branch on Smith Street. Certainly, our taste buds savored their mouthwatering Soya Sauce Chicken Noodle. Also, add to that the Dumpling in Hot & Spicy Sauce. Definitely, they are divine flavors at reasonable prices.
Interestingly, at Gardens by the Bay, we stumbled upon a Hawker Chan stall at the Jurassic Nest food court. Moreover, it was a pleasant surprise in such a picturesque setting.
Fu Lin Restaurant and Bar: Night life meets great food
3D River Valley Road, #01-02, Clarke Quay, Singapore 179023; https://www.fulinclarkequay.com/
Fu Lin, a popular spot for locals and tourists, combines vibrant vibes with a delectable menu. In fact, it features a fusion of Asian and Western flavors. Since 1995, their culinary vision has aimed for an extraordinary dining experience, using only the finest ingredients. Their fame, thanks to mouthwatering fried yong tofu, has solidified their culinary reputation.
Among Clarke Quay’s restaurants, Fu Lin Restaurant and Bar, with its irresistible charm, stole our hearts. Furthermore, the Xiao Long Bao was the best I’ve tasted, and we added delectable Prawn Dumplings. Interestingly, their unique Sweet & Sour Pork, featuring pineapple and lychees, pleasantly surprised us. Complementing our meal, we tried refreshing mocktails—an invigorating Mango Soda and a tantalizing Passion Soda.
The cozy ambiance, amplified by a live band and enchanting smoke effect from dry ice, was memorable. The diverse crowd—families, seniors, office-goers, and casual diners—all mingling seamlessly, highlights Fu Lin’s inclusive and welcoming atmosphere.
Tim Ho Wan: Dim Sum Paradise in Singapore
450 Toa Payoh Lorong 6, #02-02, Singapore 319394; www.timhowan.com
Get ready for a dim sum extravaganza at Tim Ho Wan, the Hong Kong-based chain storming Singapore. Step into the cozy eatery, greeted by the aroma of steamed dumplings. Don’t miss their signature Baked BBQ Pork Buns—a golden, flaky exterior revealing a sweet and savory barbecue pork filling. Trust me, an explosion of unforgettable flavors awaits!
On a flavor-packed breakfast adventure at Tim Ho Wan’s Plaza Singapura location, we indulged in their tantalizing offerings. Bathed in morning sun, we relished the comforting Hong Kong Style Wonton Noodle Soup and the crunch of the Egg White Spring Roll.
For a heartier option, every bite of the Chicken, Cordycep Flower & Mushroom with Rice satisfied our cravings. Truly, these morning delights set the tone for a memorable day ahead. Adding excitement, we ordered via QR code and our smartphones—an efficient, modern twist to our breakfast rendezvous.
Balestier Bak Kut Teh: A Hearty Delight for Meat Lovers
360 Balestier Road, Singapore 329783; https://www.balestierbakkutteh.com/
Craving something hearty? Balestier Bak Kut Teh is the answer. This Singaporean delight is pork rib soup infused with aromatic herbs and spices. In effect, it results in a rich, flavorful, and deeply comforting broth. Additionally, pair it with steamed rice and dough fritters for a gastronomic match made in heaven. It’s a local favorite, and for good reason.
At Balestier Bak Kut Teh’s stall in Makansutra Gluttons Bay, we embarked on a culinary adventure, surrounded by a vibrant food court atmosphere. Furthermore, the Braised Pork Belly stole the show, melting in our mouths and leaving us craving more.
While the Xiao Long Bao couldn’t rival Fu Lin’s (not that we intended to compare), they still offered a satisfying taste. Yet, it was the combination of delicious food, the open sky, and bustling ambiance that made this dining experience unforgettable. Yes, it was a hearty dinner under the stars leaving an indelible mark on our hearts.
Killiney Kopitiam: Savoring a Singapore Traditional Breakfast
67 Killiney Road, Singapore 239525; www.killiney-kopitiam.com
No Singapore visit is complete without a traditional breakfast, and Killiney Kopitiam is the go-to spot. Since 1919, this beloved institution serves a perfect blend of strong coffee and fluffy, toasted kaya toast. Definitely, it’s ideal for starting your day on a flavorful note. However, don’t miss their delectable Nasi Lemak—a fragrant rice dish with coconut milk and savory accompaniments.
To fully embrace the Singaporean breakfast tradition, we visited Killiney Kopitiam’s UBS Building store on Penang Road, near YWCA Fort Canning. Indulging in classic Kaya Toast with Soft Boiled Egg and Coffee, it was a light yet satisfying meal to kick-start our day.
Unexpectedly, we found ourselves at Killiney again for dinner, this time at Plaza Singapura. Our mission? To sample the renowned Laksa, a must-try dish in Singapore. However, to our dismay, the Laksa’s spiciness caught us off guard, overpowering our taste buds. Even Chee Cheong Fun couldn’t save us from the fiery heat. An adventurous dining experience taught us the importance of knowing our spice tolerance, leaving us with a memorable tale to share.
Le Jardin Restaurant: A Culinary Garden
Fort Canning, Singapore 179618; www.lejardin.com
As we wound down from a day of exploration, we indulged in a well-deserved culinary adventure at the chic Le Jardin Restaurant, nestled right within the heart of Fort Canning Park. Aptly named after its French translation, “The Garden,” Le Jardin seamlessly merged with its lush surroundings, inviting us into a gastronomic oasis.
As we stepped through the entrance, we were embraced by an atmosphere that exuded both sophistication and comfort. The space was adorned with contemporary elegance intertwined with rustic allure, where vibrant indoor foliage danced in the gentle glow of soft lighting, and plush seating beckoned us to unwind.
We prepared our senses for a journey through a menu crafted with passion and creativity. Le Jardin’s culinary offerings were a harmonious blend of global influences and innovative techniques. From tantalizing appetizers to sumptuous entrees and heavenly desserts, each dish was a symphony of flavors meticulously curated to delight every palate. Whether our tastes leaned towards the bounty of the sea, the sizzle of prime steaks, or the artistry of vegetarian fare, Le Jardin promised an experience that transcended mere dining.
