The neon light has finally come into life and the “Hot Now” sign is now turned on. Yes, the most awaited moment has arrived! Krispy Kreme has finally landed in the City of Smiles, Bacolod City — the Sugarlandia!
Though the long wait is over, people lined up the day before it opened to grab the most coveted prize of a year supply of fresh donuts!

I wasn’t fortunate to be in SM Bacolod on the 6th of December due to a family emergency. My special brother was confined in the hospital but at 7:00 am that day, the nurse who checked on my brother noticed the Krispy Kreme bag and box of donuts that we brought with us. He asked if the store has finally opened and we told him that at 10:00 am, Krispy Kreme will open its doors in Bacolod. He was confused.
I explained that I had the opportunity to be one of those who was given the first glimpse of the Krispy Kreme store with the commissary. It was a fun experience watching the donuts being baked fresh!
From a Secret Recipe to a Global Favorite
Krispy Kreme traces its roots to 1937 when founder Vernon Rudolph purchased a secret yeast-raised doughnut recipe from a French chef in New Orleans. He opened a small bakery in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, where he initially supplied fresh doughnuts to local grocery stores.
Soon, the irresistible aroma attracted people who wanted to buy the doughnuts straight from the bakery. Rudolph began selling directly to customers through a small opening in the wall, laying the foundation for what would become one of the world’s most recognizable doughnut brands. Today, Krispy Kreme is known globally for its iconic Original Glazed Doughnut.
How a Krispy Kreme Doughnut Is Made
Every Krispy Kreme doughnut begins with a signature yeast dough that is mixed, cut into rings, and placed in a proofing chamber. There, the dough rises under carefully controlled temperature and humidity until it becomes light and fluffy before being fried to a perfect golden brown.
After frying, each doughnut passes beneath the brand’s famous glaze waterfall, where it receives its signature sweet coating. Depending on the variety, it may then be filled with cream or custard and finished with icing, chocolate, sprinkles, or other toppings before being served fresh to customers.

Behind every Krispy Kreme doughnut is a story of tradition, innovation, and meticulous craftsmanship. From its humble beginnings in a small North Carolina bakery to its carefully choreographed production process, every warm, freshly glazed doughnut reflects the brand’s commitment to quality. Seeing how each one is made offers a deeper appreciation for the skill and passion that have turned a simple treat into a beloved favorite enjoyed around the world.
