The sun hung low on the horizon, casting a golden glow over the Andaman Sea as if nature herself had painted the scene just for me. Welcome to Phuket. It’s like a postcard come to life—and I couldn’t believe I was finally in this part of Thailand.
Bang Tao beach stretched endlessly before my eyes—an expanse of powdery white sand that seemed almost too perfect to be real. Coconut trees swayed lazily in the breeze, their fronds whispering secrets of centuries past. Pine trees lined up outside my room added a touch of calmness. The turquoise water shimmered like liquid sapphires, inviting weary souls to wade into its embrace.

A Seamless Arrival in Phuket
My journey began at Phuket International Airport, where efficiency met warmth. The airport buzzed with activity but never felt overwhelming; signs were clear, staff friendly, and baggage claim swift. As soon as I stepped out of the terminal, I spotted a smiling lady holding up a placard with my resort’s name. It was an unmistakable sign that SAii Laguna Phuket was ready to welcome its guests. With luggage safely stowed, my driver and I embarked on the 30- to 40-minute drive toward Laguna. It was a route that offered breathtaking views of Phuket’s diverse landscape.

Winding roads took us through hilly terrain, each turn revealing new vistas of lush greenery cascading down to meet the cerulean sea below. My driver chatted with me enthusiastically along the way, telling me little bits and pieces about his beloved hometown.
It wasn’t long before we descended onto the coastline, where glimpses of luxury resorts peeked through dense foliage. Soon enough, we arrived in Laguna, a sprawling resort enclave nestled along Bang Tao Beach. Known for its serene atmosphere and world-class amenities, Laguna is home to several high-end hotels, golf courses, spas, and dining options. Its tranquil lagoons reflect the sky above, creating an ethereal ambiance that immediately puts visitors at ease.

Phuket: A Jewel in Thailand’s Crown
Phuket, Thailand’s largest island, has long been a magnet for travelers seeking paradise. Its popularity stems not only from its stunning beaches but also from its rich cultural heritage and vibrant local life. For decades, tourists—both domestic and international—have flocked to this tropical haven to experience its unique blend of relaxation and adventure. From bustling markets in Phuket Town to the lively nightlife of Patong Beach, there’s something for everyone here.
For foreigners, Phuket represents the quintessential Southeast Asian getaway: pristine waters, delectable cuisine, and warm hospitality. Locals, meanwhile, cherish it as a weekend escape or holiday destination brimming with charm. Whether you’re snorkeling in crystal-clear waters, exploring ancient temples, or indulging in spicy tom yum soup by the seaside, Phuket leaves a captivating impression on all who visit.

Finding Familiarity in a New Place
This trip marked my third work conference abroad, following a memorable stint in Bali and Singapore. While Indonesia captivated me with its spiritual aura, Phuket promised a different kind of magic. Having visited Thailand multiple times before—mostly Bangkok—I considered it my second home away from home. There’s an undeniable familiarity in the air: the scent of lemongrass wafting through street stalls, the melodic tones of Thai conversations, and the ever-present smiles of locals. Yet, stepping foot in Phuket felt like entering another realm entirely.
Unlike Manila’s chaotic energy or Boracay’s compact charm, Phuket offered a sense of space and serenity I hadn’t encountered elsewhere. Here, time seemed to slow down, allowing me to truly unwind. As someone who rarely ventures beyond Philippine shores when it comes to beaches (I can only count with my fingers the beaches I’ve visited abroad), this experience was nothing short of transformative. Sitting by the shore, feeling the cool breeze kiss my skin, I realized how refreshing it was to simply be. Nothing to think for the moment, no distractions—just the rhythmic crash of waves against the sand.

Why Phuket Captures Hearts
What makes Phuket so irresistible? Perhaps it’s the sheer variety it offers. Adventure seekers can dive into underwater worlds teeming with marine life, while culture enthusiasts can explore Old Phuket Town, famous for its colorful Sino-Portuguese architecture and street art. Food lovers will find themselves spoiled for choice, whether sampling fresh seafood at a beachfront restaurant or savoring authentic pad thai at a humble roadside cart. Families appreciate the family-friendly attractions scattered across the island, while couples revel in romantic sunsets and candlelit dinners by the sea.
Beyond its natural beauty, Phuket’s allure lies in its ability to cater to every type of traveler. Whether you’re chasing adrenaline-pumping activities like zip-lining, jet skiing and ATV rides or yearning for quiet moments of reflection amidst nature, Phuket delivers.
For me, I was looking forward to a pleasant stay at SAii Laguna Phuket, a sunset party aboard YONA, which is the world’s first floating beach club, and a sweet encounter with the elephants – activities lined up during our conference.

In Retrospection
As I settled into my temporary sanctuary at SAii Laguna (a story worthy of its own chapter), I reflected on how fortunate I was to experience this slice of heaven. Traveling for work often comes with challenges, but being able to combine professional responsibilities with personal rejuvenation made this trip special.
I had an afternoon all to myself before the conference proper started. Sitting by my balcony watching the sunset paint the sky in hues of orange and pink, I felt a profound sense of gratitude. I embrace the opportunity to explore yet another corner of the world, but for the reminder that sometimes, the best adventures are those that allow us to pause and reconnect with ourselves.
Phuket may have been my first time venturing in Thailand’s beaches, but it certainly won’t be my last. If anything, this journey ignited a desire to seek more such escapes—to places where the sea meets the soul, and where every moment feels like a gift.
