Meet the Artist: Sheila Marie Basio
This latest exhibit features the works of Ms. Sheila Marie Basio, a self-taught artist from Escalante, Negros Occidental, marking her third solo exhibition. The event was a vibrant mix of artistic expression and heartfelt discussion, offering a visual narrative that delves deep into the complexities of mental health.
Basio, a retired teacher, meditator, yogini, and mindfulness advocate, has created an array of pieces that are as diverse in medium as they are in message. Her exploration of watercolor, oil, and acrylic paints provides a multifaceted look at the battles of mental illness, self-empowerment, and the choice to embrace life over defeat. As she poignantly states, “Art has always been a medium for expression, and through these works, I have attempted to capture the complexities, struggles, and triumphs associated with mental health. Each piece tells a story—sometimes of despair, sometimes of hope, but always of resilience.”

Joji Larraga, and Mr. Charlie Co, a renowned Filipino contemporary visual artist and co-owner of Orange Project.
