The City of Smiles and the #JoyInABox

Its name has resounded in many countries all over the world and has been around since 1937. And whenever you utter its name, you’ll always end up with a smile.

Krispy Kreme. The name leaves a sweet taste on my mouth, simply because I have a great deal of experience with the brand. My encounter with them was when I was with Hands On Manila Foundation and we were one of the few non-government organizations (NGOs) that were recipients of their charity doughnuts. They also volunteer with us in our yearly Servathon activity. When I moved back to Habitat for Humanity Philippine, Krispy Kreme was again a very reliable partner. I believe that Krispy Kreme in Indonesia also had a partnership with our Habitat for Humanity office there.

In other words, Krispy Kreme is a brand that always reaches out and gives joy to others. I remember the sweet memory of the mouthwatering scents of their doughnuts whenever they provide us with boxes of those during our special activities, such as our Youth Builds, Servathons, and other events. The smiles and shrieks of joy from our volunteers whenever they see the Krispy Kreme boxes seem to come back to me.

When SM Bacolod opened its north wing recently, the anticipation of the people from the City of Smiles is apparent. How much more if they will learn that Krispy Kreme will be opening its 60th store in the country, the SM Bacolod store, on December 6. And as part of a tradition, the first in line will have the Golden Ticket for a one-year supply of Original Glazed doughnuts and 8 oz. Signature Coffee.

Don’t worry if you come in second best or third best. Both will also get special privileges. The former will be entitled to six months a steady supply of doughnuts and coffee while the latter will enjoy these free products for three months. Not bad.

For the fourth to the 100th customer, if it is any consolation, wouldn’t you like to enjoy a regular supply of Original Glazed Doughnuts for a month?

Krispy Kreme will also be opening in Iloilo on November 30 and will also be following the said tradition. I can still recall the long queue when its flagship store in Bonifacio High Street first opened its doors. I expect a similar occurrence in Iloilo and Bacolod.

What’s more, the Bacolod and Iloilo shops are hot light stores, which means that once you see the hot light sign come on, you’re sure that you will get that melt-in-your-mouth doughnut freshness that Krispy Kreme is known for!

When that happens, expect the City of Bacolod to be filled with beaming smiles, all because of Krispy Kreme’s #JoyInABox.
