Dine Philippines 2015 recently graced the City of Smiles with known names in the food industry. This food business and tourism caravan, held at the Santuario de la Salle at the University of La Salle Campus in Bacolod City, presented business and learning opportunities and profitable gastronomic ventures.
Rustan’s Supermarket SansRival Magalogue editor-in-chief and Food & Font IRDS Chief Creative Officer Ige Ramos, discussed an interesting topic, which was “Hot Food Mapping Trends for Cool Food Business Ideas”. My major take-away from his presentation was to use available local food in the area in food product development.
Courage Asia Management Consulting President and CEO Adolf Aran, Jr., tackled “Tourism Trends Breaking New Ground for Resto Menu Trends”. He focused on five Travel Trends and how they can be applied in the food business.
Chef Justin David, a Chef Consultant to many budding restaurants in Metro Manila, talked about “Managing Fresh Kitchen Talents with Crazy ideas: A Chef’s Perspective’.
Chef Waya Araos-Wijangco, the Executive chef and Owner of Gourmet Gypsy Art Café, gave a moving presentation on her topic “The Restaurant as an Agent of Change”. She shared how they taught people with special needs and equip them to be employable, using the café as a training ground.
The talks were capped with the recognition ceremony of the five finalists and the winner of the Outstanding New DINE Destinations in Bacolod, which went to Quinos Café.
With the many food businesses in the province of Negros Occidental, Dine Philippines was an eye-opening event to food business owners, entrepreneurs, workers and students. Restaurants and eateries have been opening throughout the metropolis every now and then. Trends come and go, so it is always good to be always updated on the hits and misses in the food industry.
