The sun shone brightly on the small body of water that was surrounded by greens. The atmosphere was peaceful yet alive. The clear blue sky at the backdrop adding life to the already vibrant scene.
A gazebo like structure sat at the center of the six-hectare property. I walked the pathway leading to the said structure, which is the Pavillion. I looked around as I walked, relishing the picturesque surroundings of May’s Organic Garden, located along the highway of Araneta Street in Pahanocoy, Bacolod City, Negros Occidental, Philippines.
It was my first-time there and I went to May’s Organic Garden to listen to the lecture of Dr. Albert Jo, a medical doctor turned wellness advocate who encourages people to turn towards organic food and products. He also owns Rapha Valley Place of Wellness in Don Salvador Benedicto, which I hope to visit very soon. Many turned out to attend the said lecture.
Dubbed as “Live Life to the Fullest, Got Health?”, the first part was about Your Food is Your Medicine wherein Dr. Jo presented research on the ill effects of genetically modified organisms (GMO) in our body and the fruits and vegetables that we should be consuming. In the afternoon, he gave Multiple Tips on Total Wellness. What I like about his talks is that everything is backed up by research, so the information are factual.
I’ve learned a lot from the lecture. Though changing my food choices won’t happen overnight and with a snap of a finger, I’ll do my very best to prefer organic, natural food. It was an eye-opening lecture, which I hope will also pique the interest of everyone who gets to read this post.
But the most awaited part of the day was the free farm tour of May’s Organic Garden. As we waited for the sun to set so it won’t be too hot to walk around the farm, I excitedly took photos of the small lake and the bridge. A colorful windmill could be seen from afar.
We started out at the composting area where dried leaves are gathered. We also passed by its RU Botanicals and PURO Organic facilities and the RU Public Library and Training Center which is open to everyone. Solar panels can also be spotted in the compound.
There were many vegetables and fruits that were abundant around the property. Sunflower, moringa, rice, lemongrass, citronella, papaya, banana, calamansi, and different kinds of plant variety that can be served healthily are found in the garden.
Organic animals, like sheeps, turkeys, and pigs are also raised inside the compound. There was even a small ranch wherein guests can also do some horseback riding. We visited the vermi-casting area, which is used to make the plants in the garden grow in nutritious soil.
Then we came to the exciting part where there are playgrounds, a swimming pool, Jacuzzi and cabanas are located. Visitors and guests can relax in this part of the property and can cool off from the warm weather.
With all these amenities, including activities like swan paddle boating, horseback riding, ATV bike and golf car touring, May’s Organic Garden is an ideal place for special occasions, such as birthdays, wedding receptions, conventions and training seminars. You also get to enjoy healthy organic food served in its restaurant.
Entrance fee at May’s Organic Garden is P100.00 (app. US$ 2.15) for children and P150.00 (app US$ 3.25) for adults, which include free swimming at the park pool. For educational tours with snacks, the entrance fee is at P140.00 (about US$ 3.00).
For the Organic Restaurant, they have a Buffet-Assisted package that is P350 (app. US$ 7.6) per person for a minimum of 50 persons. This includes a choice of 1 soup, 1 salad, 3 main courses, 1 noodle dish, organic red rice, 1 dessert, and 1 round of drink. The same rate and required minimum number of people in a group apply for the merienda cena, which includes free entrance and free use of the venue of choice: Cabana, Round Tent, or Function Hall.
