First-time to be in a Travel Magazine

After office yesterday, I went to the mall to meet a friend. I arrived early than our appointed time so I dropped by a bookstore to buy postcards and check on some books. I stopped by the magazine stand to browse the travel magazines on display. When I got hold of a particular magazine, I remembered sending some travel tips to them months back. I checked the table of contents and, indeed, my article was printed.

As I previously worked with a public relations firm, having my name as a by-line in newspaper or magazine articles is not unusual. However, there is a different kind of feeling whenever I write about my travels. So, when I have them on print, it gives me a sense of fulfillment and excitement. When I went home, I excitedly took  out some of the travel magazines I have collected. I have set aside those publications where my name appeared and I remembered the very first time I was featured in a travel mag.

The first one was with Smile Magazine, the in-flight magazine of Cebu Pacific. It wasn’t even an article. I just responded to some questions they sent to me. When I was featured there, I realized that there were truly so many people reading Smile Magazine because of the messages I received. Come to think of it, having people sit on a plane for minutes or hours, without anything to do, is a captured audience.

One time, there was a magazine editor who saw my photos and my blogs online. He invited me to write an article about one of the places I visited. This magazine was a Filipino magazine in the Kingdom of Bahrain. It was an opportunity for me to reach out to my countrymen abroad and I assume some of them haven’t been home for sometime. I was glad to write about my adventure in Caramoan, Camarines Sur.

The recent one is with Roam Magazine and I wrote about getting lost while in a journey, and how you should turn one such situation to your advantage. It was a short piece but something worth reading.

Through my blogs and contributions in magazines, I hope to inspire others to go out, embark on an adventure, and explore the world. And writing about my travels is a way for me to immortalize memories of the beautiful places I’ve visited and the experiences that went with each journey.
