Art & Al Fresco Dining at Homegrown Bacolod

By Claire Algarme | March 22, 2016 | Category Asia, Philippines, Visayas

You can dine under the stars and surrounded by beautiful artworks at Homegrown Bacolod, formerly Café Bob’s grounds. It’s located along 21st and Lacson Streets of Bacolod City, Philippines and provide al fresco dining for those who want to enjoy the open space.

Homegrown Bacolod

The entrance to Homegrown.

Homegrown Bacolod

A festive and artsy ambiance.

The ambiance is relaxed, as if you are eating at your backyard. The paintings and lanterns add a touch of life and excitement to the environment. Stalls inside Homegrown are: Saddam’s Shawarma, Byron’s Back Ribs Grille, Aida’s Manokan, Liquid Depot, Bogsbrew Craft Beer, and Homegrown Bar.

Saddam’s Shawarma

Upon entering the compound, the first stall that would greet you is Saddam’s Shawarma. The smell of the beef whiffed to the air as we approached their stall.

There goes the shawarma.

Saddam's Shawarma

The menu board. They are really affordable!

The stall has a huge board that has various data about shawarma. It’s interesting as it showed how the food has invaded the world, while a world map is featured in that board.

Saddam's Shawarma

Some data that you might want to know about shawarma.

They also had their menu at one side. The prices are pretty reasonable, ranging from P70.00 to P95.00 (USD1.00=P47.00), with choices of beef or chicken, which may come wrapped with pita or in a box with rice. As the food were placed on our table and after we took photos of the shawarmas, we immediately sampled the goods. I’d say that the shawarmas have that “killer” taste. A must-try is the Spiced Fries with Chorizo.

Byron’s Back Ribs Grille

If you are looking for delectable back ribs in Bacolod City, Byron’s Back Ribs Grille is definitely one of the best there is. The meat is tender and the sauce is yummy. It feels like it literally melts in your mouth. Our family simply loves Byron’s and we often drop by at Homegrown grounds to bring home their back ribs.

Byron's Back Ribs

Byron’s has one of the best ribs in town.

And here’s the bigger surprise! It’s very affordable at only P150 only! Now they even have a Family Platter Meal as a Graduation Blowout to the class of 2016.

The yummy Back Ribs.

Another Byron’s specialty.

Aida’s Manokan

When it comes to grilled chicken, Aida’s Manokan is one of the go-to places in Bacolod. It’s always full at the Manokan Country, so it’s best to enjoy it at the Homegrown grounds.

Aida's Chicken

Truly the best tasting inasal there is.

There’s something about the way they prepare their chicken. Maybe in their marinade. There must be some secret recipe. But the best part is that we got to enjoy our chicken in a relaxed atmosphere. And, yes, it is also fairly priced.

Don’t you find these yummy?

Liquid Depot and Homegrown Bar

You can get your sodas and other drinks at the Liquid Depot stall. If you want to have some mixed drinks, like cocktails or other hard drinks, you can get them at the chic and artsy Homegrown Bar, located at the opposite side of the other stalls. At one corner, there is ample space that is ideal for events or a live band.

Bogsbrew

Bogsbrew

Homegrown Bar

One of those mixed drinks.

And when it comes to craft beer, Bogsbrew offers you the taste of Negros Island. It is available at the Homegrown Bar. Bogsbrew is a perfect match to the grilled chicken or the back ribs.

One of the artworks.

This one is said to be made by a German artist.

And when you crave for some sweets, Café Bob’s is just across Homegrown. You can have a slice of cake, a cup of coffee, or a cone of gelato.  Homegrown and Café Bob’s are great places to spend the night, whether for dinner or late night coffee and snacks. That’s because in Bacolod, you’ll have plenty of places to dine and enjoy good food.
