First-time in Grand Windsor Hotel Auckland

By Claire Algarme | June 15, 2016 | Category Australasia and the Pacific, New Zealand, World travel

Grand Windsor Hotel

When the shuttle service we took from the airport dropped us in front of our hotel, I admit I was a bit disoriented. The first signs I saw were Gucci and Louis Vuitton and I thought there must be some mistake. But as I scanned the area the second time around, I saw Grand Windsor Hotel right beside these stores.

Grand Windsor Hotel

Located in Queen St., in the heart of the CBD.

Set in the cosmopolitan CBD of Auckland, along Queen St., the Grand Windsor is within the neighborhood of commercial brands, office headquarters, skyscrapers, souvenir shops, and other interesting landmarks of the city. Yes, it is also a few blocks away from the Sky Tower and Sky City.

The hotel building is a historic structure, which was built in 1936. The interiors speak of classy ambiance, fused with a modern look. In fact, there are plenty of heritage buildings around Auckland and they have preserved these structures as they are now used as offices, stores or hotels.

Grand Windsor is a block away from Britomart and two blocks away from the Viaduct Harbour. Within a few distance, you can already visit different points of interest. And since it is located in the city’s premier shopping district, you can find almost anything within the area. Plus, buses ply along Queen St., so commuting is also easy when you are booked in this hotel.

A boutique-style hotel, Grand Windsor offers various amenities that can make you feel so at home. The rooms are equipped with a kitchenette, ironing set, TV, hot shower, refrigerator, complimentary coffee and tea, and so much more. The beddings are comfortable. Each room has individually controlled air conditioning and free wifi access.

We should have tried the hotel’s sauna and restaurant but our itinerary was just too full. Anyway, here are the different hotel features that guests can enjoy:

Guest room features and facilities
– 79 Guestrooms (most with kitchenettes)
– Remote controlled LCD televisions
– Mini bar refrigerator
– Direct dial telephones with voicemail
– Unlimited complimentary wifi access
– Alarm clock/radio
– Individually controlled air-conditioning
– Hairdryer and high quality guest amenities
– All guest rooms are designated “non-smoking areas”
– Complimentary tea and coffee
– Satellite television
– On account in-room movies
– King size bedding

Guest services
– 24-hour reception
– Valet dry-cleaning and laundry service
– Concierge services
– Daily house-keeping service

Brochures are available at the lobby.

To top it all, the staff are really friendly and helpful. For five days and four nights, the Grand Windsor was our home in Auckland and we wouldn’t choose any other.

The hotel looks splendid. I’ve never been to NZ, but now if I’m ever there, at least I know where I would love to stay.

The hotel room looks basic despite its location near LV and Gucci. I would have expected a fancier-looking room given the name of the hotel and its location in the city. Hehe.

Well, there are hotels alike that reside in places where you don’t actually expect to be there due to the environment it has now but the fact that it has been established decades ago, sure being confused why is it there in the first place is pretty much common question. But nonetheless, glad that they have preserved the place.

It’s a nice place to stay in if you’re not planning to spend your entire vacation locked up in the room. I like how spacious the rooms are. Simple hotels are better than extravagant ones and this proves it!

I got a shock when I see the night look because it’s a little eerie! It looks pretty decent, but not as grand as I thought it would be~

The place actually looks very lovely, and I love that it has a bit of a history too, so it tells a better story. Is it affordable though? How is it for value for money?

Value for money, it is somewhere around P4K-5K a night for the room, which is good if shared.
