The #Wonderful World of Mayon

Traveling is my passion. I have visited cities, swam beaches and hiked hills. One of the interesting places I have visited is Mt. Mayon.

Many say that one is fortunate to view Mt. Mayon and all its glory. There are several times when it is covered in clouds. Yet, in the various opportunities I have visited the foot of Mayon, the perfect cone-shaped volcano never failed to impress me.

The first time I have been to the Cagsawa Ruins and stood staring at the majestic mount in front of me, I couldn’t help but be awed by the irony Mayon offered. There I was basking in the serenity of the place, the breeze catching on the wisp of my hair. Yet, photos of the erupting volcano being sold by vendors reminded me of the fiery lava hidden inside that mountain.

Whenever it erupts, it destroys life along its path. On the other hand, it leaves behind rich soil where vegetation can grow. Those orchids sold at the shops at the Cagsawa Ruins were evidence of the richness Mayon offers. I even bought a piece of the plant and brought it back to Manila. The plant was just one of the scarce green living thing that provided life and oxygen in my previous apartment.

Mayon enabled me to enjoy the serenity and to yearn for energy. More importantly, it makes me appreciate the mystery and inspires me to protect our natural resources.

Whenever I go back to the hustle and bustle of city life, the picture of the glorious Mayon never fades in my memory. Whenever I remember it, I am thankful for the privilege of being able to see its regal beauty.

Another place to visit. Another place to explore. Yet, in every trip, I hope to leave behind good works and positive effects while reaping the wonderful experience of the place.
